Error 500 due to java.lang.IllegalStateException: No thread-bound request found

confirmed on trying to lift a 1.3.7 app to 2.0.0.m1 on win7 x64 jdk-1.6.20 grails-2.0.0.m1 spring-security-core-1.1.3

I know this issue is closed but could it have been due to a missing Spring Security UI plugin? I ran into the same problem on 1.3.7 (Fedora 10, JDK 1.6.0_7). My setup was equivalent to the "reproduce" instructions above. I finally was able to fix the problem by installing spring-security-ui (even though I was using none of the plugin-related GSP tags). Is the SS UI plugin required? I see that it was part of Ledbrook's tutorial Hubbub code (even though in his video tutorial he does not explicitly install the plugin).

The same error when using spring-security-core-1.2.4 with grails-2.0.0.RC1

Ran into this same error with Grails 1.3.7 running on CentOS 6. As noted in previous comment, installing spring-security-ui fixed it.

FWIW, I added spring-security-ui and the problem still exists. (Adding spring-security-ui was kinda heavyweight, it also required adding 'mail', 'famfamfam', 'jquery-ui' and it noticeably slows down app startup). Using Grails 2.1.0.BUILD-SNAPSHOT as of 14 Nov 2011, on Windows 8 Dev Preview with Sun/Oracle java 1.6.0_29

This has nothing to do with spring-security-ui - if adding that fixes it, it's a coincidence. I haven't had a chance to look at it again, but I assume it's a regression from the fix of GPSPRINGSECURITYCORE-95 where the resources plugin filters are in the wrong order.

Uninstalling resources should fix the problem as a temporary workaround.

On further testing, removing the "resources" http://grails.org/plugin/resources
plugin did solve it.

After removing it, I was able to uninstall security-ui and associated plugins as well.

Could you tell me how to remove resources plugin. I tried following options:
1) grails uninstall-plugin resources
2) remove plugin through STS 2.8.0 Grails Plugin Manager
3) remove plugin from ~/.grails/..project../plugins

but each time i try to launch my app (run-app) this plugin is being installed again

Norbert - remove it from BuildConfig.groovy

This is caused by the resources plugin, which is installed by default in 2.0. I've written up an issue for that project (GPRESOURCES-111) and until it's resolved it looks like resources can't be used with spring-security-core. To uninstall resources, remove it from BuildConfig.groovy and application.properties and run grails clean.

I'm having this same problem - Grails 2.0.0RC3, Spring Security Core 1.2.6. If I uninstall the resources plugin I get errors, if I just remove the two lines referencing resources in BuildConfig.groovy and the plugin name from application.properties then clean as suggested above I get warnings of errors when running the app and the error still exists. Is there a planned fix, or a newly known-about fix I'm not aware of?
I see from http://jira.grails.org/browse/GPRESOURCES-111 that it is supposed to be fixed, assuming that error is the same as mine... Any ideas anyone? Cheers, Steve

This bug shouldn'T be closed. I have the same issue in Grails RC3 and SpringSecurityCore 1.2.6 !

I, too, can confirm that this bug is indeed not resolved.

I see this on RC3, SSC 1.2.6 , Resources 1.1.4 on Windows. It works fine on OSX.

I have seen the same on Windows 7 x64 with grails 1.3.7 actually.

Mine was fixed (or perhaps it was something else???) by using resources-1.1.5.BUILD-SNAPSHOT

I got rid of the error by adding a explicit dependency on webxml 1.4.1 in application.properties.
I still have an issue on Windows. The CSS-bundle is not found after this change. So I think there is still an issue with the web.xml when mixing spring-security and the resource plugins. It works fine on Mac though.

I can reproduce this problem on Grails 2.0.0, SSC 1.2.6, Resources 1.1.6, Windows 7 x64.
It hapens only the first time I run 'grails run-app' (with empty target and project .grails dir).
Declaring explicit dependency on webxml 1.4.1 in BuildConfig works for me too.

Same error in Grails 2.0.4 ssc 1.2.7.3. works in 2nd comile

I had this issue in Grails 2.2.0 when running the app via maven 'mvn grails:clean grails:run app', while 'grails run-app' alone worked ok, and resolved it as follows:

If you're using Maven, make sure you have this on your pom.xml:

<dependency>
<groupId>org.grails.plugins</groupId>
<artifactId>webxml</artifactId>
<version>1.4.1</version>
<scope>runtime</scope>
<type>zip</type>
</dependency>

and in BuildConfig,groovy:

runtime ":webxml:1.4.1"

That solved the issue for me with Grails 2.2.0.
