Log4j appender not found when in grails project sources

When trying to use a custom log4j appender that is in the project sources grails launches a ClassNotFoundException and is unable to use the appender. This has been tested putting the appender code in src/java and src/groovy.

Moving that class out of the project, "jaring" it and putting that jar in the /lib folder solves the problem, although it would probably desirable to be able to use appenders that are in your sources.
