Install Maven2.

Register the grails maven groupId.
In the maven ~/.m2/settings.xml file add the following directive at the end of the file:

<pluginGroups>
<pluginGroup>org.grails</pluginGroup>
</pluginGroups>

</settings>

Create the grails application using the maven grails plugin.
mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeGroupId=org.grails \
-DarchetypeArtifactId=grails-maven-archetype \
-DarchetypeVersion=1.0-SNAPSHOT \
-DarchetypeRepository=http://snapshots.repository.codehaus.org \
-DgroupId=org.stephane -DartifactId=my-grails-app

Create the grails application structure.
cd my-grails-app
mvn initialize

Run the grails application through maven.
mvn grails:run-app
